Precision in the Use of the Teachers' Hands - Giora Pinkas

Weekend Workshop - Teach efficient use of the hands - Alexander Technique

A one and a half day course with HITE now at:
10 Harley Street London W1G 9PF
Saturday 5th April 2014, 10am to 4pm, and
Sunday 6th April 2014, 10am to 1pm
Aim:
Teach efficient use of the hands - to improve the teacher's skills and confidence.

Objective:
Highlight the fact that knowing precisely WHERE to place the hands can make a difference. Conversely, bring home the fact that vagueness (in using words and hands) often causes confusion.

Method:
First I will work with volunteers and demonstrate that 'anatomically correct' use of hands is helpful. I will show clearly where I put my hands, then guide and teach participants to use their hands in the ways demonstrated. Based on the practical demonstration a discussion will follow, depending on participants' interest. We will practice both chair and table work -the usual procedures, giving them a fresh perspective. Also application to activities, such as singing and playing an instrument.

Attitude:
My workshops are typically informal and, though the subject matter is serious, a light, sometimes humorous approach, puts people as ease and make learning a pleasant experience.

Philosophy:
I view our work as craft and art. To be an artist one first needs to master the basics of a craft. Otherwise things remain vague (to the teacher) and confusing ( to the pupil). To teach a exact craft requires striking a balance between strictness and ease.
